West Bengal reported 54 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, raising the total number of active infections in the state to 747, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. During the same period, 53 patients recovered, keeping the recovery rate steady. The COVID-19 death toll in the state remains at one, with no new fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that COVID-19 has not yet reached West Bengal in a widespread manner and assured that all departments are actively monitoring the situation. She emphasized the importance of staying alert but confirmed that the state government is fully prepared to handle any developments. Mamata advised people not to panic even if they experience symptoms like cold, cough, or phlegm, and recommended consulting doctors for proper diagnosis.
The Chief Minister also noted that the state’s vaccination drive is progressing well, with most people having received the vaccine, reducing concerns about the virus. She mentioned that the World Health Organization has classified the situation as endemic rather than a pandemic. Mamata stressed that there is no need for fear or panic regarding COVID-19 and reiterated the government’s commitment to managing the virus effectively.
